WinterJam: Through the Eyes of A First Time Volunteer!

A friend of mine named Trisha McCreary had the opportunity to volunteer at Winter Jam in South Carolina. She agreed to share her experience there here on my blog.

I have always had a heart/passion for volunteering and this past year God has blessed me tremendously! God made it possible for me to volunteer at Winter Jam 2011 in Greenville, SC; so, I asked my mom to volunteer with me. Though, she was not too thrilled about the idea of volunteering, she decided to. Let me tell you, I was sooo thankful!!  So, when Friday came around I woke up extremely excited that I was actually going to be volunteering and could not wait to find out what job my mom and I would have. To our amazement we ended up volunteering to sell Francesca Battistelli's merchandise with a really nice guy, whom I will leave nameless. Boy, it was a huge blessing to be given this opportunity. As time rolled around for the doors to open people began to get pumped. They came rushing through the doors as if they were already missing the best part of the show, (hahahahahaha!) The crowds became flooded with people who were filled with sooo much excitement, it made me smile! This will definitely be an image I will never forget! Winter Jam slowly began to start and I was sooo happy to be able to hear it out in the hallway, joy filled the air; as I enjoyed every minute of it! The Winter Jam Tour definitely did not disappoint! Though, I was not able to see the whole show, nor meet any of the bands. My mom and I were blessed to see some of "Newsboys" performance. Newsboys has been one of my favorite bands for a long time now and I knew they were planning something crazy awesome! Their set included a lot of amazing songs, 3 of which were "Born Again," "Mighty to Save," and "Miracles!" It was during their song "Miracles" when I began to really smile! Michael Tait began to sing and out of nowhere Jeff and Jodi began to be lifted off of the stage. Yes, I said it... They were flying, instruments included! While Duncan kept the beat with his "Out of this World" drumming! It is sooo amazing what they do with technology, soo awesome and cool! Though, I would have loved to see  all of the artists on the Winter Jam Tour like “Sidewalk Prophets," "Chris Sligh," "Chris August," "RED," "KJ-52," "NewSong," "Francesca Battistelli," "Kutless," and "David Crowder Band," performances too and hear Tony Nolans sermon; I am grateful that my mom and I were able to watch the "Newsboys." Soon after the show ended the crowds dissolved and the atmosphere grew quiet and I realized that I, too had to leave soon; but I did not want to. Well, this is my point of view; I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed experiencing it.  God Bless you!

Album Review: "Comatose" by Skillet

Rating: 5/5 Stars
Genre: Hard Rock/Alternative Rock/Symphonic Rock

Skillet began as a mostly grunge rock band, very much different than it is today. The band first began to rise in popularity with their release of Collide in 2004 in which their style of music clearly began to change. Two years later, in 2006, Skillet released it's first Gold labeled album, Comatose! The eleven track album had seven radio singles! I was recently given this CD as a birthday gift, and I shall now give you my own review of the album.

The album Comatose begins with my personal favorite from Skillet, "Rebirthing". "Rebirthing" is the most upbeat song on the entire album and is such a great rock song with symphonic rock mixed in. The song is basically about rebirthing and second chances. It is actually a song that spreads hope into, what John Cooper saw as, as world full of people who aren't feeling very hopeful these days. Rebirthing is a song about finding life in Jesus.

The second track on the album is "The Last Night", another great hit from Skillet. "The Last Night" talks about a girl who comes to John Cooper and tells him that she thinks she's worthless and hates

Album Review: "Restored" by Jeremy Camp

Rating: 4.5/5 stars
Genre: Adult Contemporary/Pop/Rock

Jeremy Camp released his album Restored back in 2004. The album became a hit with four radio singles! I was given this CD by my good friend as a birthday present this year. I listened to it two times in a row, because it was so good!

The album begins with the title track "Restored". It's a song about, you guessed it, being restored by God. Jeremy sings, "You have restored me from my feeble and broken soul." It is a good song to kick off the album. Next on Restored comes the favorite "Take You Back". It is an upbeat song about God taking us back even after all the struggles we've been through and the things we've done, as one line in the song says "When I fall I bring Your name down, but I have found in You a heart that bleeds forgiveness..."

"Take You Back" is followed by the slower song "Even When", but the tempo is raised again with my person favorite "Lay Down My Pride"! The song adds some more rock flavor to the CD and the

Album Review: "Born Again" by Newsboys

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
Genre: Pop/Rock/R&B
In March of 2009, Peter Furler announced to everyone that he was officially leaving the Newsboys to spend more time with family and God. He also announced that Michael Tait, formerly from DC Talk, would be taking over as lead singer for the Newsboys.
Later in that year, Michael Tait and the Newsboys announced that they were working on a new album with Tait as lead singer. Everyone waited to see how the album would turn out. I myself did not think I would like it. Newsboys is my favorite band, but nevertheless, I did not know what to expect from Tait.
Well, on July 13, 2010, the long awaited Newsboys album was finally released. This may have even been the most highly awaited album in all Christian music for this year. After hearing the title track “Born Again” earlier back in January, I changed my mind and decided to buy the album and take my chances! It was a great buy! Born Again is full of upbeat hits that any music lover is sure to enjoy!
Born Again begins with the title track “Born Again”. This song is already a favorite on all Christian radio stations and has hit the top of the charts everywhere. I really liked this song as the meaning is obvious and such a good one! One line goes, “Giving Him the best of everything that’s left of the life inside this man. I’ve been born again!” That sums up most of what the song is about.
The next hit off the record comes right after “One Shot” and is track three, “Way Beyond Myself.” This song has a bit more DC Talk sound added to it than the other tracks do. I really enjoyed it,

New reviews coming

If you follow me on Facebook, you know that my birthday party was just recently. Well, I got a couple CDs that day-Restored by Jeremy Camp and Comatose by Skillet. As you may know, these are both great CDs and after listening to each one, I will write a review for both of them! So stay tuned!

tobyMac: "Moving Pictures" Video Review

Rating: 5/5 Stars
Genre: Music Videos/Live
TobyMac has made many music videos, and all of them good ones. Now, you can have them all in one bundle! Toby put all his official music videos and a few live videos, plus two special director’s vids, onto this one DVD, Moving Pictures-’11 Moving Pictures Made to Move You’! This DVD does just what it promises; it makes you want to get up and move!
The DVD starts off with the hit song Tonight. Unfortunately, it does not have John Cooper of Skillet in the video (as it turns out, it was difficult just finding time for him to record the song with them), but it is still a great video and features clips with Toby as well as clips from live performances! After “Tonight” is the much slower song “Lose My Soul”. I found it interesting that they would put the slow song right after the fastest song on the DVD, but it still fits in well and is a very good music video. It shows TobyMac in a pawnshop and also features Kirk Franklin and Mandisa as well. The next video is actually a live performance of Made To Love from the Alive and Transported DVD of the Portable Sounds Tour. It is a good video though I find that the live performance of the song shows how soft the song really is.Moving Pictures returns to an upbeat tone with “Boomin”. This was one of my favorite videos on the DVD. It is a party video with Toby and the Diverse City Band singing in front of a small crowd in a dance area. The best part is that Shonlock has a rap section in it towards the end which makes the video even better! “Feelin’ So Fly” comes next and is a fun video with just one camera shot in a hallway. The video was filmed while on tour and features special appearances from the members of Building 429, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Family Force 5. The next video, Ignition, is another live video from Alive and Transported and is much better than Made To Love! The song is upbeat and very great when performed live! After this, we finally get to Toby’s most famous song, “Gone”. The video is very well done and is the only music video from the album Welcome to Diverse City. Following “Gone” is a live video of another favorite from Toby, “The Slam”. Though not made into a music video, despite its popularity, this song is still great as a live video. It is one of my favorite songs from Toby! The last three music videos on Moving Pictures are from TobyMac’s first album, Momentum. First comes the soft “Irene”, a famous song from the record. The next two, Get This Party Started and Extreme Days, are very upbeat. In Extreme Days, Toby is portrayed as a bionic man who is being hunted by a killer. The video ends with Toby confronting the killer in the end, but no one has attacked yet.Along with the main videos are two bonus videos made by directors and not featuring TobyMac at all. They were inspited by the directors’ creativity alone. “Showstopper” features kids getting ready for a water gun fight and eventually ending with them spraying each other. “City On Our Knees” is an animated video which was used as a backdrop by TobyMac in his concerts while he sang that song.
Moving Pictures has got to be the best buy of 2010! This is an excellent DVD to have playing while your working out or even if you just want to relax and watch a great video. Though I warn you, if you’re sitting down while you are watching it, be ready to eventually get up and start moving, because you won’t be able to help yourself!
