Song/Video of the Week: "Listen to the Sound" by Building 429

I loved this song when it was first released to radio! Building 429 is known for good radio singles, but I think that this one tops all the others. It has a great tune with an amazing chorus! I also like the fact that a section from "Amazing Grace," the hymn that inspired the making of "Listen to the Sound," is featured during the bridge. Now, there is an official music video to go along with the song! I was surprised to hear that Building 429 had already finished making a video for this song, but I'm can't say that I'm not happy that they did. So, here it is! And stay tuned for a future album review of the "Listen to the Sound" album.

Artist Alert: Skillet Chosen for Spot in Transformers 3 Soundtrack!

The third Transformers movie will contain an extra incentive for many Christian music fans to go to the theaters and watch it. That is because Skillet will be featured in the movie's soundtrack! That's right! The band has landed a coveted spot in the soundtrack of the third film in the Transformers trilogy, Transformers: Dark of the Moon (June 14, 2011). More details concerning the soundtrack will be released in the days to come.

Skillet has been on fire with their 2009 album Awake. So far, it has sold almost 750,000 copies, gaining it a Gold certification from the RIAA. It was Billboard's No. 2 "Top Christian Album" as well as the No. 9 "Top Alternative Album" of 2010. As I announced on this site about a month ago, the single "Awake and Alive" hit No. 1 on mainstream active rock! Finally, the album has yet to drop out of the Billboard 200 which it has remained on since its release. Thus, Skillet entirely deserves its spot on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack. I will let you all know the specifics of the soundtrack once the details are released.

Bible Verse of the Week: Mark 9:43,45,47

"If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell." Mark 9:43,45,47
I know someone with a frustration weakness. With his hands, he would play games or go on his computer. Often, he would lose on the games causing him to openly express unnecessary anger to the victors. Commonly, his computer would run very slowly causing him to become impatient and irritable to anyone who might venture to speak to him. God revealed his weakness; he decided to "cut off" both of the causes. I know of a teenage girl who has the weakness of low-tolerance. With her feet, she could dance and play backyard sports. Whenever she had to teach a new dancer a dance step, she would become impatient if the learning was not prompt and give up teaching to then dance "real" by herself. Likewise when her sisters asked her to teach them how to play basketball, she would become angry at their slowness and run off to play "real" basketball with friends. She prayed for God's strength to help her "cut off" the activities focused on herself and rather focus on others. A young man used his eyes to see ungodly movies, pictures, and women. He knew that what he was doing was wrong, but he did not try to stop because he thought that his weakness was too great for him to "cut off". These three individuals are not animated. You decide who is/are going to escape hell. The truth is, all weaknesses can be overcome and "cut off". With the strength from God, we can overcome anything on this world and thus avoid the fires of Hell. Wordly desires and weaknesses should not (and are not) be strong enough to keep us from following God, so just as you could decide who of the three individuals above was/were going to escape hell, you can decide whether you yourself will escape the eternal fire and live eternally in Heaven.

Song/Video of the Week: "Desperate" by Fireflight

This week's song/video is one that I myself had not seen until today. Fireflight is famous for their style with female vocals and hard rock. Their song "Desperate" is a hit on Christian radio and it is not surprising that a music video was made for it. Enjoy the "Desperate" music video from the album For Those Who Wait. And thanks to Jay from Jay's Musik Blog for suggesting the song for me to use.

2011 Billboard Music Awards Winners!

2011 Grammys
I wrote a post about a month ago letting you all know about this year's Billboard Music Awards. The awards are given to the songs, albums, and artists that excelled the best on the Billboard. Not surprisingly, Chris Tomlin, Skillet, tobyMac, and MercyMe were some of the nominees in the three Christian music categories-Top Christian Artist, Top Christian Album, and Top Christian Song. Two nights ago, those awards were handed out, and here is the list of the winners and nominees for the three Christian categories.

Top Christian Artist
Chris Tomlin-Winner
Casting Crowns
MercyMe
Skillet
tobyMac

Top Christian Song
"Our God" by Chris Tomlin-Winner
"Live Like We're Dying" by Kris Allen
"All of Creation" by MercyMe
"Lead Me" by Sanctus Real
"Get Back Up" by tobyMac

Top Christian Album
Awake by Skillet-Winner
The Generous Mr. Lovewell by MercyMe
Tonight by tobyMac
And If Our God Is For Us... by Chris Tomlin
Wow Hits 2011 by Various Artists

Overall, I am very glad with the outcome. Chris Tomlin definitely deserved the awards he won, and with the success of Skillet's album Awake which stayed in the Billboard 200 for over a year after its release, there is no question that Skillet had earned the album award. To view the entire awards list as well as finalist and nominees, go to Billboard.Com.

Artist Alert: David Crowder*Band Breaks Up

David Crowder*Band announced today that after their seventh tour and sixth album they will be breaking up as a band. This is very surprising to fans, as the band has only been around since 2000. It will remain a band until the Fall 2011 "The 7 Tour" is complete. David Crowder*Band's music is well known to many worship music listeners. I, myself, have quite a few favorites from the band, including "Here is Our King" and "O Praise Him." To view the official announcement and message from the band, go to the official website.

Special Announcement-New Album Reviewer Job!!!

Last night, I accepted an offer from ChristianMusicReview.org as an interim reviewer for the site! As interim reviewer, I will be reviewing Christian music albums whenever assigned to and will grow in my abilities as a reviewer. I am very excited to be a part of the CMR team and would like to thank Jay Heilman and Mike Laxton for offering me the position. Also, I'd like to thank the people who put in good words for me to website's team (I'm sure you know who you are). Whenever I write a new album review for CMR, I will post it on my blog after it has been posted on the CMR site. Finally, I want to specify that I will not at all be stopping production on this blog and will continue as normally with weekly song/videos, Bible verses, artist alerts, free music offers, and, of course, my own album reviews not featured on CMR. For now, be sure to check out ChristianMusicReview.org and stay tuned for my first review as part of the team (not sure when that will be, but I will let you know when it happens)!

Bible Verse of the Week: 1 Chronicles 16:24

"Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all the people." 1 Chronicles 16:24
Speaking of God to a multitude of Christians is one thing, but talking about Him openly with Christian despisers is another thing entirely. Think about the word "declare". In my opinion, I think that word means to speak out openly or to announce. I have never had the opportunity to share Christ to non-believers, but I have to question if I would freely speak of what God has done in my life when I am sure that I will be criticized for it or worse. I recently finished a book about the Apostle Paul. I was moved by the part when Paul was commanded to stop speaking about God, but he continued to do it. He was beaten, jailed, and became extremely ill. He started to wonder to himself if his mission was all for nothing, but he experienced God's gift of grace and strength to help him through his imprisonment. After reading this, I think I can confidently say that I would gladly declare to Christians and non-Christians about God's glory and wonders. But our true tests are yet to come to declare Him to all peoples. And I can guarantee that fulfilling God's plan will not be easy, but with Him, we will have strength to continue.

Album Review: "Robert Pierre EP" by Robert Pierre

Genre: Adult Contemporary/Pop
Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

For those of you who have not heard of him, Robert Pierre is a young, eighteen-year-old contemporary music artist from Orlando, Florida. He toured in the Winter Jam 2010, and his new album will be released later this year. I had the pleasure of listening to his full EP, simply titled Robert Pierre EP, right now for free. The EP contains three songs from his full album Identity as well as a new song that will be featured on the album soon to be released on July 26. At the end of this review, I'll let you know how to listen to the EP for free and download all the songs as well.

The EP begins with the upbeat song "Jesus." It sends the great message that no matter how terrible our troubles are or whatever it is we are going through, God is always there to help us. Robert sings in the chorus, "Any desperate day, one word I can pray. All I know to say-Jesus." With good lyrics and a great tune, this song provides for a nice listen.

"You Hold Me Now" is the only song on the EP not featured on an earlier album. It speaks about the Day of the Lord. Robert creates a picture of how it will be like to finally be in heaven with Jesus our Lord. He mentions wars ceased, streets made of gold, and suffering and pain finally gone. One of my

Song/Video of the Month: "Reach" by Peter Furler

Peter Furler's new single "Reach" is becoming a hit on Christian radio! I can't wait for the full On Fire CD to release in June, but for now, I'm enjoying listening to this song over and over again. One listen and you can tell that Peter has not lost his talent nor his music style from when he was still with the Newsboys. I won't be surprised if this song hits number #1 eventually on many Christian radio stations!

Song/Video of the Week: "Always" by Building 429

Listening to the recent new songs by Building 429 reminds me of the great hits from their previous albums. One of my favorite songs from the band is "Always." In this song, lead singer Jason Roy talks about how God is always there for us and He "never fails." It is such a great reminder for whenever we are going through tough times, and that song is this week's Song/Video of the week. Also note that the woman he talks about in the first verse is based on one of Jason's real experiences with a real woman.

Bible Verse of the Week: Matthew 6:14-15

"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matthew 6:14-15
Have you had a grudge or know of a person whom you think you cannot forgive? One of the many things that God does for us is forgiving our numerous sins, and we are supposed to be imitators of Him. Obviously, we are not being like God if we do not forgive someone. Let us say that we do not forgive anyone in life; the result will be going to Heaven to find that God will not forgive us. Not only will we not be called "good and faithful servant", but we will be cast into hell's fire where we will perpetually weep and knash our teeth. Everytime we refuse to forgive someone, Satan is laughing his head off that he has pulled us down deeper and gripped us tighter. After the first time we do not forgive, it is so much easier to not forgive the next time, easily causing us to grow miserable, stubborn, and destined for hell. However, when we forgive others, what a glorious ending we will have to be forgiven by the Lord! If you have not already practiced this, you should show more mercy and grace to others.

Bible Verse of the Week: Isaiah 12:2

"Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD Himself, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation." Isaiah 12:2
It is very simple to state that you believe that God is your salvation, but do you really believe that? Sometimes, we can speak too flippantly of our relationship with God and all that He did for us that we forget the vitality of them. Surely, we trust in God, but we have all felt and experienced anxiety and worry during difficult circumstances of our lives. We remember to pray, but fear that peace may not come. Do we really have a strong faith in God that we have nothing to fear? Of course, we know that God is our stronghold. We rely on Him.....do we really rely on Him for everything? He is our salvation. He has delivered us by redemption from Satan's power and Satan's hellfire. Have you personally believed all of these things? Consider this verse as we continue our daily lives.

Song/Video of the Week: "This Is The Stuff" by Francesca Battistelli

This week's song/video is actually a LIVE music video of Francesca Battistelli's current single "This is the Stuff." The video was made from a collection of professionally shot videos and videos made by fans who attended Winter Jam. I really enjoyed this song and the video, and if you remember, this song was the Song of the Month for February! Thanks to my buddy Sam from my brother site God Tunes Reviews for the help with embedding the video which, quite embarrassingly, I did not know how to do.
