Album Review: "Gravity" by Lecrae

Release Date: September 4, 2012
Genre: Hip-Hop
Rating: 5/5 Stars
With two Dove Awards and a Grammy nomination under his belt, hip-hop veteran Lecrae Moore is back with his sixth studio album. Lecrae has become the face of Christian hip-hop, having already released five studio albums as well as the highly praised mixtape Church Clothes. His 2010 album Rehab and its 2011 follow-up Rehab: The Overdose were highly successful, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel and Top Christian Albums charts. It is no surprise that Lecrae’s sixth album Gravity has gained a lot of attention from critics and fans, all of whom have high expectations. Lecrae said concerning the theme of the album, “Gravity is loosely based on Ecclesiastes, and I think what Solomon was trying to do was bring some weight to life, and that’s really what I want to do, to paint some sober pictures.”
“The Drop (Intro)” opens Gravity with an upbeat chorus of strings and drums as Lecrae fiercely delivers rap lines that will instantly get the listener’s head bobbing. Lecrae raps about not letting pressure from outside sources stop him from continuing his ministry. The title track (featuring J.R.) tones the beat down a notch as Lecrae raps about putting his hope in eternal life. Lecrae is joined by Novel in “Walk With Me,” an encouraging song about crying out to the Lord for help during troubling times and to resist the temptations that arise. “Devil’s lurking around the corner just waiting for me to sin / I pray that you sustain me and keep me from giving in.”
In “Free From It All,” Lecrae talks about people who strive to be accepted by others by living a life of lies and shame. “Falling Down” features Swoope and Trip Lee and has one of the dopest beats on the record! It follows the gravity theme of “falling down” while the rappers drop lines reflecting on the world’s sinful nature. Fellow hip-hop veteran Thi’sl joins Lecrae in the upbeat song “Fakin’.” For those who are well familiar with Christian hip-hop, it is always enjoyable to see these two experienced rappers in the same song, and “Fakin’” is easily a highlight on the album.
Lecrae mentions in “Violence” that some people believe the lie that they cannot be forgiven for their sins, but Lecrae assures us that we can be forgiven. “Mayday” features Big K.R.I.T. and Ashthon Jones singing about forgiveness and how all our lives need perfecting. “Confe$$ions” is one of the more serious tracks on the album, featuring Lecrae rapping about how money is not enough to make someone truly happy. Lecrae sings to his wife in “Buttons,” assuring her that no matter how strained their relationship becomes, he will never leave her. “Power Trip” features Derek Minor (f.k.a. PRo), Sho Baraka, and Andy Mineo, who rap about the desire for power, and that God is really the One with all the power.
The next song on the album, “Lord Have Mercy,” features Tedashii and a voice-over of No Malice singing one of his lines from the Church Clothes mixtape, “Lord have mercy and pity on your son / From what I once was and what I have become.” Tedashii and Lecrae rap about turning from their sinful ways. The first official radio single, “I Know,” which Lecrae again raps about pressures and hate he receives for his ministry, follows this. He emphatically states, “I know what they saying, but I promise that I’m cool though.” Lecrae marvels at the love of God in “Tell The World” which features Mali Music. ‘Crae raps about the Lord’s willingness to die for us and clean us from our sins, making us brand new. R&B singer Rudy Currence sings with Lecrae in “Lucky Ones,” the title referring to us Christians who do not deserve the salvation we have been granted.
After listening to Gravity, I was impressed with how much Lecrae’s lyrics and music have matured a lot since his previous works. The beats are extremely catchy and contain a stronger mainstream sound while the lyrics remain spiritually convicting. Gravity is a perfect follow-up to Church Clothes and exceeds the mixtape’s excellence with terrific rapping from Lecrae, and it is no surprise that Gravity has garnered much mainstream praise. It is arguably the best album of the year and is sure to gain Lecrae not just mainstream attention, but award nominations and many new fans as well!

Artist Alert: TobyMac's "Eye On It" Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Top 200

News Source: The M Collective

Nashville, Tenn. (September 5, 2012) – Five-time Grammy® Award winner and multi-platinum selling artist TobyMac has made career history with his latest project, Eye On It, entering the Billboard top 200 at No. 1, selling nearly 70,000 units and marking the first time in 15 years an artist in the CCM genre has accomplished such. Eye On It released August 28 to an overwhelming response, with the album topping the Overall iTunes® Chart just hours after its release, and continuing to reign there throughout the week. This amazing debut comes as his single, “Me Without You,” continues to hold onto No. 1 on the CHR and AC Indicator charts.

"We have been so honored to see Toby achieve number one songs at AC and CHR radio formats on his new album, and now for him to achieve number one status on Billboard's Top 200 chart is absolutely amazing and well deserved,” remarked Peter York, President, EMI CMG Label Group. “This project is filled with great songs that are well produced and that clearly resonate with Toby's consumers. The launch plan at radio & retail was meticulously designed and executed by his marketing, sales and management teams. I'm very pleased to see this collaborative effort work so effectively for Toby."

“It's my honor to write songs and even a further privilege that people choose to listen and make them part of their lives,” TobyMac reflected upon hearing the news of the debut. “My hope has always been that these songs would somehow remind people that though we are all flawed God offers us love, hope and refuge. If this week or these numbers is any indication of that, I am thankful.”

The 12 tracks comprising Eye On It pull from TobyMac’s personal influences (“Made For You” and “Family”), as well as a nod to his ascension into music (“Thankful For You”). Eye On It features musical guests including reigning GMA Dove Awards New Artist of the Year, Jamie Grace (“Favorite Song”), Group1Crew’s Blanca Reyes (“UnStoppable”) and Christian rap heavyweight Lecrae (“Forgiveness”). Along with TobyMac’s first three solo projects, his 2009 release, TONIGHT, was recently certified Gold by the R.I.A.A. Written by TobyMac and David Garcia, “Me Without You” was the first track from Eye On It to be released to radio, where it claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Christian Songs, CHR and Christian AC Indicator charts. It’s currently at No. 2 on the National Audience Chart and No. 3 on the Christian AC-Monitored chart.

About TobyMac:
With over 11 million units in career sales, TobyMac's first four solo projects are RIAA certified gold. His live DVD, Alive & Transported, is certified platinum by the RIAA and also received a GRAMMY® award. In 2012 the much-celebrated and acclaimed artist celebrated his eighth consecutive GRAMMY® nomination, this time for his songwriting contribution to rising star (and recording artist on his label, Gotee Records) Jamie Grace’s No. 1 hit “Hold Me.” His album Tonight received GRAMMY nods for “Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album" and "Best Contemporary Christian Song" with “City On Our Knees” the RIAA Gold-certified track that topped the sales and radio charts faster than any of his previous singles, spending 8 weeks at No. 1 on the Christian Audience Chart. Tonight also garnered him the highest sales debut of his solo career with over 78,000 units and a No. 6 Billboard Top 200 debut. The album was also named as iTunes® Best Christian Album of 2010 and recently took home the Dove Award for “Best Rock Contemporary Album of the Year.”

Along with sold out tour dates, back-to-back radio hits and being named the GMA Dove Award’s 2008 “Artist of the Year,” he was also nominated for “Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist” at the 2010 American Music Awards and was up for three Billboard Music Awards in 2011 including “Top Christian Artist.” The hit song “Tonight” was also chosen as the theme song for MLB’s 30 Clubs in 30 Days Spring Training Series and featured on the Golf Channel. Additionally, his music has been heard in major motion pictures such as “Hancock,” “TRANSPORTER 2,” while also being featured on Fox sports, The NFL network, being selected as the theme song for Fox College Football and WWE’s Fatal 4-Way Pay-Per-View. “Showstopper,” from the chart-topping album Tonight, was featured in ESPN’s ESPY Award Show and used to launch the last season of CBS hit television show CSI: NY.

Bible Verse of the Week: We Are God's Workmanship

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

This is another verse that never fails to speak to me in a different way each time I read it. We are His workmanship created for the good that God prepared for each one of us beforehand. There are a number of points in this verse, and I will state three of them. The first point is that we were crafted perfectly and uniquely by God in His own image. Second, the purpose of our creation was and is for us to do good works. Lastly, God planned our works and future before we came into being. With the three of these in mind, how could we do anything else besides putting our trust in God and striving to fulfill what He prepared for our lives? Each of us has something that God has specially purposed. I encourage you to seek what God prepared for your lives in order to fulfill those good works. ~Jesselyn

Album Review: "When Dawn Breaks" by Without A Poet

Release Date: March 30, 2012
Genre: Post Harmonic Indie Rock
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Without A Poet is a new Christian rock group from Eugene-Springfield, Oregon. The band consists of Andrew Beaird (Lead vocals/Guitar), Joshua Rainey (Drums), Seth Magee (BGV/Guitar), Andrew Causey (BGV/Bass), and Jordan Poet (BGV/Keys) who refer to their style of music as Post Harmonic Indie Rock. Founded in 2010, Without A Poet released its debut EP When Dawn Breaks in March of 2012.

When Dawn Breaks opens with “Can’t Be Won” which features a lot of guitar-plucking as Andrew sings about falling to the pleasures of life, calling himself weak. The first thing I noticed about this song was Andrew’s amazing voice which listeners will be sure to enjoy. Towards the end of the song, he sings “Am I doomed to walk alone, or are You with me?” I think this is something many Christians find themselves asking God at some point in their spiritual journey, and the answer is that God is always there to help us. In “Product,” the band admits the times they have failed, saying, “We have all wandered farther from Your will.” They then ask of the Lord to “show Your goodness still” amidst their failure.

“Aston’s Blindness” talks about the blindness we have that causes us to sin, but during the chorus, the band sings of dawn breaking and daylight coming to clear our minds. The next song “The Voyage” is a slower

Bible Verse of the Week: Faith

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." -Hebrews 11:1

This verse really challenges me concerning my faith. The definition of Christian faith is plainly stated here. It is an expectancy of the thing that is hoped for and the conviction of the unseen thing. Faith is a crucial part of every Christian's growing walk with God. If we do not have faith, we cannot possibly believe that the Bible is real or that God even exists. Jesus said that if you have faith even the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains. Therefore, faith is a powerful part of our Christian lives. Without faith in God, how can we call ourselves His children? I challenge you to deepen your faith in God, by truly reading His Word and waiting on Him, that you may see miracles performed by Him. ~Jesselyn

The song and video feature fellow Reach Records artist Tedashii and No Malice who many will remember hearing on Lecrae's mixtape Church Clothes. Album Review: "Weight & Glory" by KB

Release Date: July 16, 2012
Genre: Hip Hop
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

One of the more recent members of Reach Records, Kevin Burgess (aka “KB”) is finally releasing his much anticipated debut album. KB was introduced to Christian hip-hop as a teen, and after high school, he formed the Christian rap group His Glory Alone (HGA). He was invited by Lecrae to the “Acquire the Fire” tour, joined Reach Records a few months, and was featured in many songs by fellow Reach Records artists. KB’s debut album Weight & Glory focuses on the glory and awesomeness of God. He describes it as “us being blown away by God…feeling His weight and beholding His glory.”

The piano-based “Weight Music” opens Weight & Glory and features great, quick rap lines from KB along with a very calm hook. It is an interesting way to start the album, but KB pulls it off beautifully and the song has an amazing sound. The first single “Zone Out,” featuring Chris Lee, is the second track on the album. KB refers to zoning out as the times when he is “obsessed” with the Lord. Furthermore, he and Chris state that no one can stop this Christian drive: “You can bring whoever you want / And you’ll never break me, won’t penetrate / Once I get off in my zone.” “Anomaly” is driven by a clear drum beat as KB raps about the

Bible Verse of the Week: Draw Nearer to God...

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed." -Mark 1:35

This verse is a constant reminder to me of the vitality of praying daily. Jesus, tired as He may have been from the previous day, rose early in the morning to begin His day praying privately. That is the model of how faithful we should be concerning prayer. It is unbelievable easy it is to have too many activities occurring to remember to have a time with God. However, God does not ask for us to spend extended periods of time with Him. In fact, throughout the Bible, God never set a length that we are to pray. Even in our busy schedules, we can spare a few minutes to talk to God. I challenge you to set aside a time alone each day during which you seek the Lord. "Draw nearer to God, and He will draw nearer to you." ~Jesselyn

Bible Verse of the Week: We Do Not Need To Speak On Our Own Behalf

"But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge." Matthew 27:14a

I recently reread this chapter; I never cease to admire Christ's character of grace. Jesus never hesistated to speak for the benefit of others, but He did not say a word for Himself. Even when He was challenged by the religious leaders, He never gave a direct response in His defense. In our human nature, we tend to be defensive and argumentative. However, Jesus remained patiently silent throughout all false accusations. Thus fulfilled the prophesy of Isaiah: "He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth." By His obedient silence, indeed, He proved Himself to be the Lamb of God. I would like to leave you with this challenge, of which I have long taken upon myself, for the week: Since God sees through your heart and knows your thoughts, you do not need to speak on your own behalf. After all, God will know, and truly, what else matters? ~Jesselyn

Album Review: "The Revolution" by Lil Prophet

Label: Real Word Records
Release Date: June 26, 2012
Genre: Hip Hop
Rating: 4/5 stars

Lil Prophet, born Ryan Kelsie, is a young, 24-year-old hip-hop artist from Tampa, Florida.  With a degree in Biblical Studies, Lil Prophet’s mission is to preach the gospel through his music.  His new release, The Revolution, focuses on the topic of us Christians truly making a difference in our lives.  Lil Prophet describes a “revolution” as being the “daily renewing of your mind and spirit….  This album will challenge the believer to come to grips with their daily actions and thoughts.”
“Welcome You In” opens The Revolution with Lil Prophet rapping about having to “revolutionize” from his old ways and become new in Jesus.  The track has a great beat and serves as a solid opening to the album.  This is followed by “New Changed” in which Mehlek Pfisha joins Lil Prophet in talking about Christ’s sacrifice as well as the change in their lives.  “I’m changed / Said I don’t do them things I used to do my mind has been renewed.”
Lil Prophet gets very serious and deep in “Brainwashed” where he raps about the brainwashing we receive from the media.  He reminds us to follow God, not the influences that surround us.  The topic of “Fatherhood” is quite convicting as Lil Prophet tells men to support their families and help raise their children.  Furthermore, men are to love

Song/Video of the Week: "Oooo Weee" by Relikis

This week's song/video comes from hip-hop artist Relikis who is with Shamrock Media Group. I wrote an album review on Relikis' latest album I Am Relikis for Hype Radio Network. "Oooo Weee" is the opening track, and I called it "a solid opening for the album." Relikis states in the song, "I only need that One on my team" and that his mission as a rapper is for God. Here is the brand new video for the song:

Bible Verse of the Week: The Son of Man Came To Serve

"The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." -Matthew 20:28

I consider this verse to be spiritually inspirational. The majority of us have a natural desire to be great. This verse points out that even Christ Himself came to serve us instead of what seemingly should have been vice-versa. Contemplate on this: Jesus, as worthy and mighty as He is, did not enter earth or heal others with grandiose pomp. Instead, He came and traveled humbly, never carrying Himself with higher importance than those around Him. Additionally, He gave His life for sinners and those who despised Him. If we are to be imitators of Christ, as is commanded of us, we must at least practice humility by serving others as Jesus served us whom were undeserved of that grace. ~Jesselyn

Album Review: "Church Clothes" by Lecrae

Release Date: May 10, 2012
Genre: Hip-Hop
Rating: 5/5 Stars

Grammy-nominated and dove award winning hip-hop artist Lecrae is back with a free mixtape directed mainly towards mainstream audience. Lecrae wants to use this mixtape to let new fans know more about him without having to buy an album. The meaning of the title of Church Clothes is that God takes us as we are; we do not need to “fix ourselves up” to make ourselves worthy enough for him. Though the mixtape may be directed towards nonbelievers, Christian fans will still find much substance in the lyrics of these songs.

Church Clothes begins strongly with the anthem-style “Co-Sign” which gives the listener an idea of what the mixtape is all about. Lecrae lets us all know that while his music is Christian, it is still hip-hop: “Hi, Hip-Hop / Don’t act like you don’t know me / We got the same momma / Don’t you try to disown me!” This’l makes a guest appearance on “APB,” the title of the song referring to the police’s APB broadcast containing information about wanted people. Lecrae uses this to represent that his life has changed so much that those who knew his old self are putting out an APB to find the “old Lecrae.” The title track on

Song/Video of the Week: "Let Go (ft. DecembeRadio)" by FLAME

I reviewed hip-hop artist FLAME's new album a couple months ago. He just recently released a music video for his song "Let Go" which features DecembeRadio and was also one of my top 3 songs from the album! Enjoy the video below and go here to read my full description of the song and album!

Bible Verse of the Week: Humility and Submission

"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." -Philippians 2:10-11

This verse is centered on humility and submission. The passage that this verse is taken from teaches that we have an attitude like Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 11:29, "Learn from Me...I am humble in heart." The physical act of bowing displays humbleness; doing it unto God is acknowledging and accepting His power and greatness. In Psalm 95:6, David urges, "Come...let us kneel before the LORD our Maker." Indeed, as stated in the verse, all will bow and confess that Jesus in Lord. Note that the verse does not say that all will have truly believed in Christ; it only says that all will humbly admit that Christ is Lord. For now, I encourage you to keep your heart forever humble and submissive before God that you may be a true imitator of Christ. ~Jesselyn

Album Review: "The Good Life" by Trip Lee

Release Date: April 9th, 2012
Genre: Hip-Hop
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

When one thinks of Christian hip-hop, one of the first names that comes to mind is Trip Lee. No doubt, Trip Lee has played a big role in increasing the popularity of the genre. Since his debut album in 2006, he has grown in both talent and recognition, winning the Stellar Award for Best Hip-Hop Album in 2011. Trip’s fourth studio album The Good Life focuses on redefining what the “good life” really is. Concerning the new album, Trip says, “Though the world, the flesh, and the devil lie to us about what the good life is, we don't have to be controlled by those lies…I want to challenge the lies we've been told, and present a new and more glorious picture.”

The album begins with Trip Lee saying, “I was told that living the good life meant getting everything I could. But I’ve been shown the brand new picture of the good life and its glories.” He then launches into a head-bobbing opener “New Dreams” which features J.R. and Sho Baraka. The first single off

Bible Verse of the Week: Trust in God During Times of Trouble

"They cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way." Psalm 107:6-7a

This verse instills a deep trust in the Lord in my heart. Vast changes or undesirable circumstances often arise the fleshly question of "Why?" to God. It is wrong to question Him, but we sometimes cannot refrain from wondering if God has forsaken us. It is in these times that it is important to remember that such trials are necessary for the testing and strengthening of our faith in our Christian lives. Amidst it all, we experience the faithfulness of God as He guides us through it all. David experienced this which caused him to confidently declare, "The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me." (Psalm 138:8a) I encourage you to face your trials with trust in God that He has a purpose for all things in your life. ~Jesselyn

Artist Alert: Hip-Hop Artist Lecrae Release Free Mixtape

Christian hip-hop veteran Lecrae has released a mixtape titled Church Clothes to the public. The best part about this mixtape is that it is absolutely FREE! The purpose of this free album is for Lecrae to reach out to the mainstream audience. Thus, this mixtape is directed mainly towards the non-Christians, but Christians will still enjoy this album. I've listened to it once already, and I know it's going to be on repeat for a while (I'm listening to it a second time as I write this post)! The lyrics are not watered down at all, but musically, fans will get something they haven't heard from Lecrae yet: these songs feature a street hip-hop style! To download the full mixtape for free, just go to the datPiff website here. If you have any non-Christian friends who like hip-hop, be sure to let them know about this mixtape!

Song/Video of the Week: "Church Clothes" by Lecrae

This week's choice for song/video may be a little surprising to some people despite the fact that the song's artist is Christian hip-hop veteran Lecrae. "Church Clothes" is the lead single and title track to Lecrae's upcoming mixtape which releases May 10th. (If you haven't downloaded your free copy of this song, go here to find out how to do so.) However, this mixtape is directed towards the mainstream audience (i.e. non-Christians). This song is spoken from the voice of someone who does not go to church and feels that he can justify his sinful ways due to the hypocrisy in the Christian church. For Christians, this song could be seen as a wake up call to direct attention to some churches where this hypocrisy does indeed exist. Get ready, because this song gets really deep.

Bible Verse of the Week: Trust In The LORD With All Your Heart

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." -Proverbs 3:5-6

Although this is a verse that is learned in childhood, it is a great reminder for us throughout our spiritual lives. It begins by saying not to trust in our human abilities, but to lean on God with all our hearts. Interestingly, 'heart' was also used in the command in Deuteronomy 6:5, "Love the LORD your God with all your heart..." In the Old Testament, the heart embraced the totality of human personality--intellect, emotions, will. However, it was and still is what easily forgets God when overcome with pride, fear, doubt, and a plethora of other things. When this occurs, road-blocks and bumps and twists appear; God is the only One Who can straighten that path. Verse 6 promises that God will direct our lives if we acknowledge Him in all that we do. I encourage you to never rely on your own strength but to trust in the Lord with your whole heart. ~Jesselyn

Song/Video of the Week: "I'm Alive" by Peter Furler

Following his success at the WinterJam tour, Peter Furler has released a promotional video for "I'm Alive," the first track on his album On Fire. The video features footage taken live in concert during the tour. It was great seeing Peter and Phil Joel on stage together again, so newsboys fans will love watching this vid! You can read my review for Peter Furler's debut album by going here.

Bible Verse of the Week: John 14:26

"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." -John 14:26

Although sometimes overlooked, the Holy Spirit is the One Who opens our eyes to understand the Word and discern what God is speaking to us. As this verse states, we do not have to be concerned about what we will say when we are challenged because the Holy Spirit abides in us. An example of this is in Acts 4 when Peter and John were questioned what power allowed them to heal the lame man. Verse 8 says that Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and answered that the man was healed by the name of Jesus Christ. Upon hearing this confident response, none could find fault in them. In order for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to hear the Voice at the door of your heart and open the door to let Him come in. ~Jesselyn

Song/Video of the Week: "Rise Up" by Matt Maher

Last week, I let you know of the offer to get Matt Maher's latest single "Rise Up" for free! Go here to get your free song if you haven't already. Matt Maher has also released a new music video for the song which is this week's song/video. This video is really encouraging and one of the best I've seen this year. Go here to read my review for the full album as well as my description for this song.

Bible Verse of the Week: Romans 12:2

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will." -Romans 12:2

I periodically remind myself of the holy doctrine of this scripture. In other words, this verse says not to let the world squeeze us into its sinful mold. Paul does not leave us wondering how to not allow this world to take hold of our souls. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We are to be radically changed within by utterly turning from our impure mindsets. I like the choice of the word "conform". Paul used it earlier in Romans 8, "For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son." Consider this: we are conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ. Thus, live in the likeness of Jesus that you will be enabled to approve that God's will is good, pleasing, and perfect. ~Jesselyn

Album Review: "Dangerous" by KJ-52

Release Date: April 3, 2012
Genre: Hip Hop
Rating: 4/5 Stars

KJ-52 has had much experience in the Christian hip hop industry, but some may be surprised to hear that Dangerous is already number eight in his list of full albums. The rapper sure has come a long way since his early releases and is now a highly recognized and respected artist. Dangerous focuses on the theme of our lives being changed for the better after coming to know the Lord. For those who have not heard much of KJ’s music, this album will easily demonstrate the rapper’s talents both in rapping and songwriting.

The album opener “It’s Going Down” features Canton Jones and launches off the record with a rush of excitement that will get the listener moving to the music immediately. While singing lyrics like “We come to party, it’s going down / We come to party, now jump around,” KJ-52 specifies the reason behind his dancing: Christ has set him free. One of the bigger highlights off the record is “They Like Me” which features Grammy-nominated hip hop veteran Lecrae. In the song, the two rappers sing about how there should not need to be

Song/Video of the Week: "I'm Good (ft. Lecrae)" by Trip Lee

One of the best tracks off hip hop artist Trip Lee's latest album The Good Life is the song "I'm Good" which features fellow hip hop star Lecrae. The music video for this song raises awareness for the Christians in other countries who are persecuted for their faith. Trip Lee has partnered with Voice of the Martyrs, an organization which will recieve of portion of the proceeds from the song. Learn more about Voice of the Martyrs and their partnership with Trip Lee by reading a previous artist alert from this site.

Bible Verse of the Week: James 4:8a

"Come near to God, and He will come near to you." -James 4:8a

No matter how many times I read this scripture, I find myself needing to be constantly reminded of its truthful message. It is not difficult for us to forget to solely submit ourselves to God. One day He may feel close to us, but the next He feels confusingly distant. Whenever we feel far, there is a bitter and almost guilty emptiness in our hearts. One thing easily overlooked is that that distance was our own doing. Many relate with David in Psalm 22:1 in which he cried out, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me?" However, could it be that we have forsaken Him? Then, how will He come near to us again or at all? We must come near to Him first. I encourage you to draw nearer to God, for it is promised that He will fill your life with joy (just as He has filled mine). ~Jesselyn

Artist Alert: Trip Lee Debuts At #2 On iTunes With Release Of "The Good Life"

News Source: Rogers & Cowan

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 11, 2012) - Reach Records' hip-hop artist Trip Lee continues momentum with the release of his 4th studio project, The Good Life, debuting at the debut #3 on iTunes and #2 on the hip hop chart (iTunes). Hitting stores nationwide April 10, 2012 through Reach Records, The Good Life celebrates the truth in real life through its unique style and lyrical content.

In conjunction with his album release, Trip has partnered with Voice of the Martyrs, unveiling a brand new video this week for "I'm Good." The powerful track, which features Grammy-nominated label mate Lecrae, is a group effort to raise awareness of the persecuted Christian church. A portion of the proceeds from the song will be donated to Voice of the Martyrs. The Voice of the Martyrs is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian organization dedicated to assisting the persecuted church worldwide. VOM was founded in 1967 by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who was imprisoned 14 years in Communist Romania for his faith in Christ. His wife, Sabina, was imprisoned for three years. In the 1960s, Richard, Sabina, and their son, Mihai, were ransomed out of Romania and came to the United States. Through their travels, the Wurmbrands spread the message of the atrocities that Christians face in restricted nations, while establishing a network of offices dedicated to assisting the persecuted church. The Voice of the Martyrs continues in this mission around the world today helping Christians who are or have been, persecuted for their involvement in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. They provide medical assistance, food, clothing, and other forms of aid.

"It is such an honor to partner with Voice of the Martyrs and raise awareness about persecution and encourage believers to stand firm," says Trip. "'I'm Good' is an anthem that communicates our
