Song/Video of the Week: "Where I Belong" by Building 429

I really love this song and I'm glad that Building 429 chose to put together a music video for it. The song refers to Christians and how we are not a part of this world. As leader singer Jason Roy sings in the chorus, "All I know is I'm not home yet / This is not where I belong / Take this world and give me Jesus / This is not where I belong." As Christians, we have a great future to look forward to, and just thinking about that gets me really excited! Anyway, the music video for this song features the band singing the song in concert, and the video provides great angles of the band members, stage, and crowd.

Bible Verse of the Week: Jonah 3:10

"When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, He had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction He had threatened." -Jonah 3:10

This verse is a perfect example of God's abounding mercy and forgiveness. First of all, even though Nineveh was a wicked city, God did not utterly destroy it like in Noah's time or Sodom and Gomorrah. Instead, He sent a prophet to enlighten the city of its evilness. Then, God was quick to forgive them of their ways when they repented. What is important was the people of Nineveh's swift response to Jonah's proclamation which proved the genuinity of their contrite souls. Acknowledging their urgent calls onto Him and turns from their violence, God showed mercy and grace by fully condoning them. If we are truly sorrowful and repentant of our sins unto God, He will grant us forgiveness and may spare us from whatever awaiting destruction. ~Jesselyn

Artist Alert: "Passion: White Flag" Set to Release March 13

This news is a little late, but I wanted to post about it anyway and provide all the details. Every year, a Passion album is released, and this year, it is a live recording (as it always is) from Passion 2012. The album will feature songs from Chris Tomlin, Kristian Stanfill, Matt Redman, David Crowder*Band, and more! Here is the official release from The M Collective:

February 8, 2012

Recorded live at Passion 2012 and featuring sixstepsrecords artists Chris Tomlin, David Crowder* Band, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman, Christy Nockels and Kristian Stanfill, along with the voices of more than 42,000 college students at Atlanta's Georgia Dome, PASSION: White Flag will release worldwide on March 13th.

The album will feature some familiar songs while also highlighting brand new music spurred from Passion 2012, including the first single, featuring Chris Tomlin, “White Flag,” impacting radio on February 24th, along with a Bonus Deluxe with three exclusive tracks (full track listing below). White Flag is the follow-up record to Passion: Here For You, which debuted at No. 11 on Billboard’s Top 200 when it released in March 2011 selling over 30,000 units and garnering the No. 1 spot on the Christian Albums Chart. Since the first release in 1998, Passion projects have sold more than 1.8 million albums and introduced the newest and up-and-coming worship songs, including “Better Is One Day,” “How Great Is Our God,” “God Of This City,” “Holy Is The Lord,” “Waiting Here For You,” and in 2010, the #1 radio single “Our God” (from 2010’s Passion: Awakening).

Recently commended by President Obama in his speech (at 12:43) at the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, Passion 2012 helped 42,000 students representing 31 countries and more than 1,700 campuses learn about the horrific realities faced by the 27 million people worldwide who are enslaved as forced laborers, child laborers or trapped within the all- too prevalent sex trade. In total, $3.3 million was given to support more than 20 projects around the world by organizations that are focusing on prevention, rescue, and restoration for the millions of men, women, and children entrapped in modern day slavery.

Not only did students give financially to impact people all over the world, but they also provided enough towels and socks to the homeless shelters in the city of Atlanta to supply them for more than a year. More than 36,000 towels and 150,000 socks were donated.

CNN captured the heart of Do Something Now this year in a story profiling the efforts being made by the students and the heart and purpose behind Passion. Click here to watch the story.

Passion 2012 was a four-day gathering for college students and was led by renowned teachers Louie Giglio, John Piper, Francis Chan, and Beth Moore, among others, as well as lead worshipers Chris Tomlin, David Crowder* Band, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman, Christy Nockels, Kristian Stanfill, and more.

Bible Verse of the Week: Matthew 11:28-30

"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." -Matthew 11:28-30

This is a very powerful verse that I regularly review. I have realized that the well-known verse 28 is easily taken out of context. It is promised that when we are burdened, the Lord will give us rest. This can be translated as us casually thrusting upon Him every one of our heavy worries and life burdens so that we can be free. Reading on, you will see that this is not the whole picture. Jesus then states to not only come to Him but to take His yoke upon ourselves and learn from Him, THEN our souls will find rest. Breaking it down, Jesus commands us to "Come, Take, and Learn". Does not each of us want rest and freedom from our burdens? Go to Him, take His yoke, and learn from Him. Then, you shall find eternal rest, for, indeed, His yoke is easy and burden light. ~Jesselyn

Artist Alert: Jason Dunn Departing From Hawk Nelson [UPDATE]

This is the most shocking news in Christian music that I have heard in a long time. Jason Dunn, frontman and lead singer of Hawk Nelson, will be departing from the band he founded to focus full attention on a solo project! I could not believe this when I read it! Here is the official report:

(NASHVILLE, Tennessee) -- After nearly a decade with Christian rock band Hawk Nelson, frontman and founding member Jason Dunn will depart the GRAMMY® and Dove Award nominated group on May 15th. Dunn plans to release his first solo project under the name Lights Go Down later this year.

Dunn spent the last few months recording at Profile Studios in Vancouver, B.C., with RIAA Gold-accredited record producer Steve Kravac (Blink 182, MxPx, Less Than Jake). Tentatively titled Abandon Progress, information about the album's release date and label and distribution plans are forthcoming.

Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Hawk Nelson signed to Tooth and Nail Records in 2004, and to date have recorded 5 full-length albums selling in excess of 600,000 units. A compilation album, The Songs You've Already Heard: Best of Hawk Nelson, is scheduled for release on March 27, 2012.

"I will miss playing music on stage with my friends, but really looking forward to the future with Lights Go Down," says Dunn. "I wish Hawk Nelson the very best with their future endeavors."

For more information, follow Lights Go Down on Facebook and Twitter.

Update: The band posted an official announcement on their website (hawknelson.com) concerning Jason's departure:

We want to officially announce that Jason Dunn will be leaving Hawk Nelson at the beginning of May to pursue his solo career.

“For 10 years we have climbed this mountain together. Hawk Nelson has gone through thick and thin, challenges and blessings. Jason is a brother, and we will miss everything he brings to the band. We know that God has a plan for him as well as for the future of Hawk Nelson. We’re excited to share about the future of Hawk Nelson very soon, and we constantly give God all the praise and glory.”
