Bible Verse of the Week: Jonah 3:10

"When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, He had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction He had threatened." -Jonah 3:10

This verse is a perfect example of God's abounding mercy and forgiveness. First of all, even though Nineveh was a wicked city, God did not utterly destroy it like in Noah's time or Sodom and Gomorrah. Instead, He sent a prophet to enlighten the city of its evilness. Then, God was quick to forgive them of their ways when they repented. What is important was the people of Nineveh's swift response to Jonah's proclamation which proved the genuinity of their contrite souls. Acknowledging their urgent calls onto Him and turns from their violence, God showed mercy and grace by fully condoning them. If we are truly sorrowful and repentant of our sins unto God, He will grant us forgiveness and may spare us from whatever awaiting destruction. ~Jesselyn

Thanks for that great reminder about God's mercy and forgiveness, Jess! As a sinner, I'm always finding myself asking the Lord for forgiveness and it's great to know the loving heart He has for us.

You're welcome, Justin! It is wonderful to know that God is slow to anger and merciful as well as patient with us sinners.
