Album Review: "Blameless and Free EP" by Allan Scott Band

Release Date: May 15, 2012
Genre: Modern Worship/Rock
Rating: 5/5 Stars

Allan Scott Band is an up-and-coming worship band from State College, Pennsylvania. It is made up of Allan Scott (lead vocals, guitar, & songwriter), Ray Ceglar (bass), Hayden Miller (lead guitar & background vocals) and Caleb Bush (drums). After going to jail and rehab for drug abuse, Allan came to know Jesus Christ and began writing lots of meaningful music, leading him to start the band. In May 2011, they signed with RadioActive Entertainment, a music label co-founded by producer/songwriter Scott Davis (Kutless, Rush of Fools, Jaci Velasquez, Sidewalk Prophets). Blameless and Free, the band's first EP with the label, is also mixed by Allen Salmon (Building 429, Starfield, Anthem Lights). With soothing lead vocals accompanied by rock-sounding music, Allan Scott Band (ASB) delivers both entertaining and lyrically powerful music in Blameless and Free.

The EP opens with "Great Things," a song that talks about what our Lord has done for us. Allan focuses on the fact that we were full of sin, but God purified us and made us clean. "He has made us new / Sin has been removed / We're righteous and clean." While listening to this first song, I was

Genre: Hip Hop/Pop/Soul
Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

After three full albums, Rhema Soul has already made a name of themselves before releasing this latest album RED. The South Florida trio is made up of K-Nuff, JuanLove, and Butta-P; three talented singers who are not afraid to dive into deep topics in their songs. Rhema Soul starts RED off with a bang through the title track that features guest rapper Thi’sl. “RED” has a very convicting message, urging people to make a move (and make a difference); not

Bible Verse of the Week: Nahum 1:7-The Lord is Our Refuge

"The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him." -Nahum 1:7
I love this verse because it is plainly stated yet very powerful. The beginning is wonderful, simple truth--the Lord is good. The verse continues that He is a our refuge. Psalm 46 says that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. God causes inescapable trials to either test our faith or punish a wrongdoing. Even so, He is forgiving and provides a way out for us when we repent. Thus, He is always with us as our help. Next, He cares for the ones who trust Him. David reiterates in Psalms of his trust in God..."In the LORD I put my trust" (Psalm 11)..."But I trust in Your unfailing love" (Psalm 13). From personal experience, I am certain that God knows and cares for those who trust and have faith in Him. I encourage you to trust God that He is good, your ever-present refuge, and cares deeply for you. ~Jesselyn

Album Review: "The 6th" by FLAME

Release Date: March 6, 2012
Genre: Hip Hop
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

The title of FLAME’s latest album The 6th not only refers to it being the sixth album of the artist’s career but also to the fact that the Lord created man on the sixth day. Following great success from his past albums, particularly Our World Redeemed which garnered GRAMMY, Dove, and Stellar Award nominations, FLAME has made quite a name of himself in the world of Christian hip-hop. Thus, The 6th is an album with high expectations, but FLAME might just exceed all those expectations with this solid release!

The 6th begins with the head-bobbing “Try Me” which features Young Noah and introduces any new listener to FLAME’s distinctive rap voice which sounds great with his genre of music. The title track,
“The 6th Day,” follows and begins the main theme of the album – the creation of man on the sixth day. FLAME reminds us that we are made in God’s image and need to reflect God’s characteristics in our lives. This topic leads into “The Great Deception” which focuses on the fall of man and has a musical sound that

Artist Alert: Fireflight Debuts At No. 1 On Sales Chart With Latest Release "NOW"

Fireflight topped the sales charts the week of its release, breaking all of its previous records of sales debuts! Here is the official report via Provident Label Group:

NEWS SOURCE: Provident Label Group
March 15, 2012

(Nashville, Tenn.) March 15, 2012-- GRAMMY Award nominated, female-fronted rock act Fireflight tops the sales charts this week with its most recent studio release, NOW (3/6/12). The band boasts its highest sales debut to date, beating out previous first week numbers.

Coming in at No. 1 on multiple sales charts, including SoundScan’s Current Contemporary Christian Overall Chart, the Rock Alternative Chart as well as the iTunes Christian & Gospel Albums chart, Fireflight scanned more than 8,000 units its debut week. This is a career best for the group, who is enjoying success at radio as well with current single “Stay Close,” also No. 1 at Christian Rock radio this week.

Fireflight supported NOW’s release amid a flurry of positive reviews from outlets including:

iTunes: “...Fireflight proves masterful at delivering sanctified anthems with shout-along choruses.” “...the quintet continues to bring excellence to its Evanescence-meets-Skillet sound while making subtle stylistic tweaks that move Fireflight closer to an even broader appeal.”

CCM Magazine:“Fireflight’s latest is as powerful and abbreviated as its title: NOW. Dawn Michele and company are back...”

Christianity Today:“...their [Fireflight’s] fourth full-length doesn't stray from the tried and true: blistering guitar anthems garnished with electronics, all edged toward the epic via the massive vocals of Dawn Michele.” “...if you're looking for a diverse rock record with a softer side, Now is well worth a listen.”

During street week, Fireflight also made an appearance on LeSEA Broadcasting’s original 30-minute music program “Live From Studio B.”

Asserting a new direction from the group’s previous record For Those Who Wait (2010), NOW calls listeners to move beyond their circumstances and take action. Produced by Jasen Rauch, NOW displays a new sonic focus for the band as well, built on lush electronic textures, futuristic moods and a more finely honed grasp of tender-to-titanic dynamics. Together the project’s hard-hitting message and sound make for an anthemic album.

Most recently, Fireflight wrapped the initial 20-city leg of its “Stay Close” tour, featuring BEC Recordings artist Rapture Ruckus and Delvin Williams. The band will pick up a second run of the tour, this time with Ashes Remain and 7eventh Time Down, mid-April. For a complete list of tour dates, visit

Just For Fun: "Baby Baby" MercyMe Cover

You might remember last year when I posted the MercyMe cover of The Beatles' "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da" taken during the Rock and Worship Roadshow 2011. Well, the guys (and their friends) are back with a cover of Justin Bieber's "Baby Baby" videotaped at the end of this year's Rock and Worship Roadshow (looks like it's becoming a tradition). Even if you do not like Justin Bieber (I don't), you will find this video hilarious!

Bible Verse of the Week: Romans 1:16a

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes." -Romans 1:16a
This is a verse that I use to constantly keep my spiritual development in check. Paul asserts that he is unashamed of the gospel; are you ashamed of it? An easily answered question when you are not pressured by the world. If your answer is no, then why not? Paul explains that it is the salvation of all believers, bestowed upon by the power of the Almighty. Simply read, but what does this mean to us? We must first analyze if we are true believers, then recognize that the gospel is God's power for our vital salvation. I would like to add that shame of the gospel can be expressed through actions as well. If you eschew Christian principles with peers, then you are indirectly stating that you are ashamed of your salvation. Submit yourselves to God's power, be grateful for your salvation, and be unashamed of the gospel. -Jesselyn

Song/Video of the Week: "Matter of Faith" by Peter Furler

Peter Furler's single "Matter of Faith" is lighting up on Christian radio and it is not surprising that Furler would create a music video for it. The song talks about looking forward to the day when Christ will return. The video and the song lyrics together give such a beautiful picture of what that day will be like. "The sun will rise and light a brand new day / Every knee will bow unto Your name / All the saints will shout and sing Your Glory / As a matter of fact / It's a matter of faith."

Artist Alert: "My Hope Is In You" Ends An Amazing 14-Week Run At #1 On Five Charts For Aaron Shust

NEWS SOURCE: Bozeman Media
March 1, 2012

Nashville, TN (March 1, 2012) ----- Centricity Music's Aaron Shust has ended an incredible run at #1 on five charts with his hit single, "My Hope Is In You". This marks the first week since September 19, 2011 that the song has not been #1 on a Christian music chart. Besides being a mega-hit for Shust, the single marks the first #1 at AC Radio for Centricity Music. Here are the overall stats for "My Hope Is In You".

AC Monitor Chart- 14-week #1 song
AC Indicator Chart- 7-week #1 song
Soft AC Chart - 6-week #1 song
National Audience Christian Chart - 9-week #1 song
iTunes - #1 downloads Christian song

"We are so proud of Aaron and what he has accomplished with his debut project for Centricity, This Is What We Believe," says Steve Ford, Vice President of Marketing, Centricity Music. ""My Hope Is In You" marks the first AC #1 for Centricity and when it hit the top of the chart we were thrilled, but now with a 14-week run we're ecstatic. We knew when Centricity signed Aaron he was a special artist and we think the second single, Risen Today, will be just as strong with listeners and radio."

Risen Today was scheduled to go for adds at radio late January, but due to the overwhelming success of "My Hope Is In You", the second single had to be moved back for radio adds this week. Risen Today is a re-make of the well-loved hymn, Christ The Lord Is Risen Today, and gives the classic tune an upbeat delivery but with the same respect for the message of the lyrics. Fans will have the chance to hear Shust perform the song live on the spring leg of the highly-popular Called To Love Tour that launces in March 2012.

About Aaron Shust
Shust is enjoying his biggest success to date with, ""My Hope Is In You"," which stayed at the top of the AC Monitor chart for 14 weeks. Artist Alert: Audrey Assad's "Heart" Draws Five-Star Reviews and Highest Sales to Date for Artist

Audrey Assad's much antipicated sophomore album Heart has, not surprisingly, surpassed the sales numbers for its first week compared to those of her debut album! Here is the official report via The Media Collective which contains some very positive reviews from notable music websites:

News Source: The M Collective
February 23, 2012

What a week it has been for Sparrow Records singer-songwriter Audrey Assad, whose critically adored sophomore album, Heart, bowed on Valentine’s Day to across-the-board praise and her highest sales-week numbers to date. Heart ranked in at No. 3 on the Christian Soundscan chart, selling over 7,300 units, giving her a 185 percent sales increase over the debut week of her last album, The House You’re Building. The CD also crowned the iTunes ® Christian & Gospel Albums chart and reached No. 18 on the overall iTunes ® Albums chart. In addition, before Heart’s release, Rhapsody named it one of their “Most Anticipated Albums of 2012.”

Here is just some of the acclaim being heaped on Assad:

"This thoughtful, cerebral singer-songwriter has a unique approach... In an industry that can be confining at times, Assad shines as a true original." -Rhapsody

"...the New Jersey native adopts a gorgeously understated and stripped-back approach that allows her fragile ethereal vocals to take center stage...Heart is, on the whole, an impassioned and sincere affair worthy of joining recent efforts from Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles…" – All Music Guide

“Albums this thoughtful and mature are very rare on just your second try, and Assad has clearly spent time cultivating a sound and message that are completely true to her artistic vision. Even fans of edgier music can't deny the powerful honesty and authenticity of Audrey Assad's Heart.”
– Christian Musician

“Reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and Carole King, Heart, is a great sophomore effort by a talented artist…” – Worship Leader

“If Audrey's debut album was to show the world what a talented singer and songwriter she is, then Heart does this in abundance, adding an extra edge of maturity. “Breaking You”…shows Audrey at her best. And when she is at her best, no other singer gets close to her.”

“Sparrow,” the debut single from Heart, is currently No. 5 on Soft AC/Inspo Monitored chart, with it being the most-added track on that chart this week.

The singer-songwriter and multiple GMA Dove Award nominee recently wrapped a stint on Matt Maher’s “The Love In Between” tour, having performed in markets including St. Louis, Washington D.C., and New Orleans, among others. Beginning March 23 in Red Bluff, Calif., Assad will pair with singer-songwriter JJ Heller for a spring co-headlining tour that concludes on April 26 in Raleigh, N.C. For all tour information, visit
