Album Review: "Blameless and Free EP" by Allan Scott Band

Release Date: May 15, 2012
Genre: Modern Worship/Rock
Rating: 5/5 Stars

Allan Scott Band is an up-and-coming worship band from State College, Pennsylvania. It is made up of Allan Scott (lead vocals, guitar, & songwriter), Ray Ceglar (bass), Hayden Miller (lead guitar & background vocals) and Caleb Bush (drums). After going to jail and rehab for drug abuse, Allan came to know Jesus Christ and began writing lots of meaningful music, leading him to start the band. In May 2011, they signed with RadioActive Entertainment, a music label co-founded by producer/songwriter Scott Davis (Kutless, Rush of Fools, Jaci Velasquez, Sidewalk Prophets). Blameless and Free, the band's first EP with the label, is also mixed by Allen Salmon (Building 429, Starfield, Anthem Lights). With soothing lead vocals accompanied by rock-sounding music, Allan Scott Band (ASB) delivers both entertaining and lyrically powerful music in Blameless and Free.

The EP opens with "Great Things," a song that talks about what our Lord has done for us. Allan focuses on the fact that we were full of sin, but God purified us and made us clean. "He has made us new / Sin has been removed / We're righteous and clean." While listening to this first song, I was
already looking forward to the band's first full album release! Following "Great Things" is the song that will be ASB's first radio single, "Perfect Love (Christ Alive)." In this upbeat track, Allan sings of the love of Christ and how Christ lives in us, giving us peace, joy, and completeness. During the first verse, Allan makes a statement about this that is true for all Christians: "There's nothing more our hearts could need / He lives in us today." When referring to this song, Allan said, "God hasn't left us in a position of lack; He has given us Himself."

"Shine" slows down the pace a little as the band asks the Lord to shine His glory down so that we may see it. ASB uses this song to praise God for His grace and love that He has poured down upon us. Finally, Blameless and Free closes with an acoustic version of "Perfect Love." After hearing the upbeat version of this song, it is surprising just how beautiful the song sounds as an acoustic track.

The Allan Scott Band may be a young band, but this group is truly talented both musically and lyrically. Allan has an amazing voice and certainly has a gift for writing songs, and with his voice combined with the music from the rest of the band, a beautiful sound is created. Be on the lookout for ASB's first radio single "Perfect Love" which will reach radio on April 27th and will also be available for download via iTunes on April 10th! Most of all, mark your calendars for May 15, 2012 when the Blameless and Free EP will be released to the public!
